CHICKENPOX
Two sixth grade students who had not yet received their chickenpox (varicella) booster were diagnosed last week with chickenpox. If your child has not yet received that booster, they are at risk of catching that illness. Watch for a fever, a headache and sore throat. The chickenpox rash usually appears about 1-2 days after the first symptoms, but some children get the rash without other early symptoms. It usually takes 14-16 days to get the symptoms of chickenpox after you have been around someone with the virus. You are at risk for chickenpox if you have never had the illness and have not had the chickenpox vaccine. Please contact your healthcare provider if you have questions. Pregnant women, people with chronic health problems, teenagers and adults should contact their doctor if they have chickenpox symptoms.

IMMUNIZATIONS FOR 7TH GRADE
Thank you to all the families who submitted updated immunization records this year! There are 70 families remaining who have not sent in records. Please be prepared to wait on Schedule Pick-up day for your child's updated immunization records to be processed by Nurse Nancy. Once your child's immunization records are processed, that hold on their schedules will be released. Any records submitted during the summer (by mail, fax to 469 752-6401, or carry in) will be processed then as well. The Nurse's first day back to school is Aug. 11th. Schedule Pick-Up 7th grade students is 1PM on August 11th. Have a wonderful summer!

PTA Summer Information Site

SMS Families!
We made it through another year! As we wind down from this school year and ease into summer we want to remind you to continue to visit the www.SMSPTA.org site over the summer months, to stay on top of important information to prepare you for the upcoming school year. In mid July you will begin seeing more detailed information around the schedule pickup process, school supplies and the required forms needed. The PTA has had a fantastic year and has provided the teachers, staff, students and parents with a variety of programs and services. Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Angela King, an incoming 6th grade Mom from Carlisle who will be our new PTA President for the 2011-12 school year. Angela and the new officers and board are ready for the challenge that a new school year brings. I am leaving you in very capable hands! We wish you all a safe and happy summer!

Thanks!

If you are moving, considering a move, or enrolling in a private school for 2011-2012

In order to plan for the 2011-2012 school year, we would appreciate information from families who are planning a move from the Schimelpfenig/Jasper/Clark attendance zone during the summer. This information is very important and helps in accounting for all students that don't return for the 2011-2012 school year. We have only a few weeks after school begins to account for students who do not return. If we can't account for the any student who has been with us during 2010-2011,they will be considered Schimelpfenig drop-outs.

Thank you for your help in this matter,
Helen Howell
