Book Club
Ms. MacKinney Book club is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The club meets once a month and has ongoing discussion via mypisd.net.

Cheerleading
Ms. McCarthy & Ms. Hughes
This club is for 8th graders interested in learning cheerleading skills. Cheerleaders cheer at sporting events, pep rallies, and support other school activities.

Chess Club
Ms. Fleming Chess Club is open to all students at Rice. Students meet once a week to play chess and to teach others how to play the game.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Ms. Kosel Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is a Christ-centered, Bible-based ministry. FCA is a student led organization that is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.

FLAR (Foreign Languages at Rice)
Ms. Pak, Ms. Sibbaluca, & Ms. Fleming
FLAR provides students with an avenue to socialize, have fun, and learn more about foreign languages and cultures.

Geography Club
Ms. Hare The Geography Club takes students on a trip around the world as they learn about countries' geography, culture, and people.

MATHCOUNTS
Ms. Stolarski
MATHCOUNTS competes in local math competitions and is open to all grades. Solving math problems and working with other students are emphasized.

National Junior Honor Society

To be eligible for NJHS membership, the candidate must be a current 7th or 8th grader at Rice who has been enrolled for the equivalent of one semester. Selection is by a faculty council majority vote and is based on outstanding scholarship, citizenship, character, leadership, and service.

Poetry Book Club
Ms. Weidenbruch
The Poetry Book Club produces an illustrated poetry book by and for Rice students annualy in the spring. Students, listen for announcements in March for further details.

Ravens of Lore
Ms. Petropoulos
This speech and drama club is open to all grades. Students compete in tournaments in a variety of interpretive and forensic events including duet acting, readers theater, poetry, prose, original oratory and debate. It is not necessary to register for a speech or debate class in order to participate in Ravens of Lore. Competitions are held on Saturdays and the group meets on scheduled weekdays.

Science Fair
Ms. Pennington & Ms.Santa Maria
The goal of science fair is to provide students the opportunity to showcase their knowledge of the scientific inquiry process and problem solving. Competition is held in February.

Spelling Bee
Ms. Hoerner
Students prepare for the competition held in January. The winner of the Rice spelling bee goes on to compete at the district level.

Student Council
Ms. Khoshkar, Ms. Kosel, & Ms. Beekman
Student Council members provide service to our student body, parents, and the community outside of our school. All grade levels are encouraged to participate with the level of responsibility and job demands increasing with each grade level.

Technology Club
Mr.Robinson, Ms. MacKinney, & Ms. Vig The technology club is an opportunity for students to share their interest in technology with staff and other students. They will do this by sharing and facilitating the use of technology in the classroom and by helping new and struggling students master the technology that the campus has available to them.

Whiz Quiz
Mr. Sommer
Whiz Quiz is an academic competition in a game show format. It is open to all middle schoolers. We compete against other PISD schools in February and March.
